Cricket - Kendal go top of Northern League
KENDAL have displaced Leyland at the top of the 3-D Sport Northern Cricket League's First Division, beating the former leaders by four runs in a thrilling victory at the Stanning Memorial Ground.
Professional Ross McMillan made 57 and took 6-59 in a telling all-round display for the Shap Road side.
Kendal batted first and were restricted to 162-7 off their 50 overs with Ikram Ullah's 51 and McMillan's 57 supplying the bulk of the runs, although Stuart Parkin's 21 down the order was to decisive.
Leyland crumbled under the examination of McMillan's pace bowling and they fell short of the target on 158 in 49.1 overs - five short of victory with five balls left.
Kevin Howarth took 2-30 and Ben Simm 2-39.
Kendla now lead Blackpool by two points at the top of the table, with Leyland dropping to third.
Meanwhile, there were runs aplenty at Netherfield, where Carnforth looked to have established a strong position when piling up 254-6 declared in 46 overs thanks mainly to Ryan Bailey's magnificent 162 not out.
Netherfield proved equal to the task, however, on a lovely batting track, with Chris Parry playing a skipper's innings for 105 and professional Callum Ferguson (62) and John Huck (51) offering great support to see the home side to a seven-wicket win at 255-3 in 43.2 overs.
