The Castle Street Centre celebrates successful year
A SPECIAL party is taking place at Castle Street Community Centre in Kendal next week to thank local people and organisations for their support.
The party will follow on from the trustees annual general meeting and all local residents and people that use the centre are welcome to come along and join in the fun.
One year ago, the Castle Street Centre Trust, with the help of Kendal Town Council, South Lakeland District Council, the Westmorland Youth Orchestra and the Frieda Scott Trust, bought the building from Cumbria County Council and 12 months on the centre has become a well established and much-used community facility.
As well as big grants from Northern Rock, the Tudor Trust and the Garfield Weston Foundation, local people and trustees worked hard to raise the £150,000 needed to close the deal.
Since then, the Castle Street Centre has continued to benefit from the generosity of groups and individuals and despite the fact it was burgled in March, its books still show a surplus for the financial year.
Trustee Chris Taylor said: "The continuing growth and success of the Castle Street Centre is down to the hard work of all our trustees and volunteers, and to the increasing use groups make of our facilities."
The party, which will include fizzy wine and canapés, takes place on Wednesday June 25 at 7.30pm.
Anybody who would like to attend is asked to contact the centre on 01539-739154 so that organisers can ensure that there is enough wine and food.
