Ashy's Angle: Looking ahead

GOOD football has got us up to finish in 11th place. Saturday's final match was at Guiseley, who were just outside the play-offs, and we battered them, but it was the story of our season.

We had loads of possession and were not clinical enough.

Six or seven one-on-ones went begging in the second half and that's something we need to address during the summer.

Many times we have outplayed teams and just not shown that killer-touch, but a lot of managers have told me we were the best side they have played.

I feel we can make a bigger impact next season and I intend to be playing again - the diet has started and the aim is to get as fit as possible for the start of the season!

Everybody in the present squad wants to stay at the club - it's not very often you get a group of players who get on so well together and we want to keep that spirit. They know the grass isn't always greener - I feel that I've got the respect of all players and I'm proud of what they've done.

We are all looking forward to the presentation night at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal on Saturday.

I had a bit of fun watching the Brian Kitching Memorial Match against the Sunday League which raised more than £500 and Paul Mac is still feeling the after-effects!

Finally, I would like to thank all our supporters, sponsors and everyone at the club who puts in so much work behind the scenes. See you next season.

Kendal Town finished with the same points as last season, only last year they were 4th from bottom. If Ashcroft thinks this is reason to celebrate then woe betide Kendal Town next season. It was an unusual year as up to 9 teams were fighting relegation at the end of the season. Town's 11th place is an illusion. Look at the results.

73 players this year have passed through the Town squad this year, most are Ashcroft's mates and pupils at Myerscough - who incidentally make up the reserve team aside from a couple of local players.

Under Lee Ashcroft - his record speaks for itself MORE LOSSES THAN WINS OR DRAWS - Kendal Town will achieve nothing apart from an unusually high turnover of fourth rate footballers from Preston.

It's time someone went through that club and weeded out all the dead wood, there's lots of it, and make a club the town can really be proud of.
