Lake District voted third best UK destination
It seems dramatic landscapes, a striking coastline and heading to either end of the nation is how Britons like to spend their holidays.
In a survey commissioned by Saga Holidays, it emerged that almost one in four holidaymakers (22%) are lured by the beaches and surf of Cornwall, voting the country's southern most tip their favourite UK destination to go on holiday.
While more than one in six (16%) prefer to head north for the drama of the highlands - and maybe the odd dram of whisky - with Scotland being voted the UK's second most popular domestic getaway.
The theme of water continues in the country's third and fourth choice of best holiday spot with the mountains and lakes of the magnificent Lake District capturing 13% of the votes and the pebbled beaches and moorland of Devon ensuring 10% of people named it as their UK destination of choice.
Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive, Saga Group, commented: "When it comes to a UK holiday it appears people like to top and tail the UK - with the breathtaking scenery offered by Cornwall and Scotland being the biggest draw."
To celebrate the beauty of Britain, Saga Holidays has some fantastic Great British Escapes taking in the nation's most stunning scenery and fascinating history.
Saga holidays are exclusively for people aged 50 and over, a travelling companion may be aged 40 or over.
