Swimming - Relay team's historic swim
CLUB history was made when the 9/10yrs girls relay squad became the first Troutbeck Bridge ASC team to win a
County Age group relay event.
The combination of Emily Wild, Stephanie Booth, Amy Richardson and April Howie stormed to a memorable victory in the 200m-medley relay.
They got off to a solid start in the heats, where they set the standard with the fastest qualifying time.
Going into the final they knew if their first two swimmers could head the race, then the threat from Carlisle's butterfly swimmer could be vastly reduced - and how they responded.
Wild erupted from the block in her backstroke and held off all challengers to finish with a
personal-best split time.
Booth also made a magnif-icent start and transition and then set a stroke-pattern that the others just could not match.
This gave Richardson the extra metre she wanted for the butterfly leg and she too recorded another pb split which took her neck-and-neck with the Carlisle swimmer.
The final 50m saw Howie enter the water with a massive dive and her sheer power and drive took her into the lead.
Turning into the final length, she tore the opposition apart and hit the wall in a storming victory to take the team into the history books.
As usual the other teams put in competent displays and in the evening's County Championships both the men's and women's teams reached the finals of the freestyle and medley relays, with the men's teams taking fifth places and the women's teams sixth places.
